We’ve built a community of 900K+ curious minds. We’ve collaborated with global giants. We’ve proven that complex ideas can reach millions. Now, we need a detailed mind to host increasingly complex projects.

To distill this role into one sentence: “You need to do your homework and bring to the team the knowledge, skills, and environment for the better of the company growth.”

This is crucial because many think operations or project management is about passively coordinating tasks or filling gaps. In reality, this role involves actively identifying opportunities for improvement and confidently leading the team toward the best path.   What you’ll be doing…

As the Operations Manager, you are responsible for turning our big-picture strategy into day-to-day operations by coordinating teams and managing systems. Your work will revolve around 4 core areas:

1️⃣ Project Execution

You will be responsible for key business projects: from conception to completion. You will ensure that every project, from a daily video production to a campaign launch, is properly scoped, managed, and delivered on time.

  • For example: If we were to launch a promotion campaign for Youtube Membership, you’ll own the entire project plan; mapping out the timeline from pre-launch to post-launch, coordinating with stakeholders, bridging between different parties, and guaranteeing every key milestone is met.

2️⃣ Production Management

You will oversee the operational side of our 不正常人類 production process, ensuring projects move smoothly from idea to execution. This includes coordinating timelines, aligning communication, identifying bottlenecks before they become problems, and creating systems that allow the production team to focus on producing high-quality work.

  • For example, if a scriptwriter is unable to finish a script on time, you’ll need to identify the issue early, communicate it clearly to the team, and coordinate with affected parties to rearrange schedules and keep the project moving forward.

3️⃣ Business Operations & Systems Management

You will own our business's internal operating system. This involves monitoring teammates’ daily working status, actively seeking room for improvement, and meticulously managing our information and workflows within Notion, Google Workspace, and any AI integrations to eliminate friction.

  • For example: When you notice the video production team struggling with scheduling their time or delegating tasks, you’ll step in and ask the right questions. From there, you’ll design a system that allows them to focus on creative work while easing their scheduling challenges.

4️⃣ Data & Insights Ownership

You will partner closely with the sales and marketing manager to build and manage systems that track key business metrics. Together, you’ll ensure the data is actionable and directly informs the company’s growth strategy

  • For example: When social engagement drops, you’ll collaborate with the marketing manager. You’ll analyse and collect the strategic data insights, and they’ll use them to execute the right path forward.

 Requirements

  • You have a background in operations management, business development, production management, or related fields. Experience working with influencers or in startups is a strong advantage. We need someone who can hit the ground running with minimal instruction on Day 1. (Fresh graduates are welcome to apply.)
  • You are fluent in both Chinese and English, with strong written communication skills.
  • You are a strategic problem-solver. You will regularly face new challenges or tools you haven’t used before (e.g. new campaigns or platforms like Kajabi). When faced with ambiguity, your first instinct is to find a solution and propose a “best guess,” not to wait for instructions.
  • You have strong communication and teamwork skills. You understand that people speak different “languages” and are willing to go the extra mile to translate ideas, ensure clarity, and support teammates in achieving shared goals. Clear communication comes naturally to you. Present with clarity becomes a second nature to you.
  • You are a systems thinker. You ENJOY creating, maintaining, and improving both workflows and the systems that support them. You understand that consistent, structured procedures are what enable creativity, growth and innovation.
  • You are AI-savvy. This isn’t for someone who just uses ChatGPT or Poe.com without deeper understanding. You should know what makes a good prompt (its key elements) and understand the concept of AI agents.
  • You are tech-savy. You don’t need to be an engineer, but you have some really basic tech foundation (e.g. you know what’s an APIs, a webhook, etc), and when you hit a tech roadblock, you know how to find the right solution.
  • You have a growth mindset and you read books. We don’t offer a traditional training program; instead, we will personally assign specific books for you to read. You must be comfortable learning from long-form, text-heavy materials to ensure we acquire the same language and mental models.
  • You are accountable. You don’t stop doing things because something is new or unfamiliar. You take initiative, lead projects, explore unknowns strategically, and turn setbacks into learning opportunities.
  • You hold teammates accountable — including your boss. You are willing to give direct, constructive feedback when expectations are not met, and you care more about solving problems than avoiding discomfort.
  • You are highly organized and dependable. Punctuality, taking clear meeting notes, and completing tasks on time are second nature to you. As part of a small team, you'll be comfortable wearing multiple hats and working autonomously.
  • You are willing to be unpopular when necessary. You are comfortable confronting issues directly, having candid conversations, and staying assertive when leading projects. You understand that maintaining project quality and momentum sometimes requires difficult conversations.
  • You’re open to giving and receiving direct feedback. You value honesty and transparency, and you’re comfortable with radical candor as part of healthy collaboration.
  • You’re excited to join a small team and build something meaningful. You want to actively contribute to growing 不正常研究所’s brand internationally over the next 1–3 years and are motivated by our mission (To create a platform that bridges the gap between complex ideas and curious minds, empowering individuals to explore the world and engage in radical, open discussions) and not just tag along for the ride.
  • You thrive in a dynamic environment and readily adapt to changes. We value agility and understand that strategic shifts are essential for growth. This position is not suitable for someone uncomfortable with changes.
  • You are able to connect dots, see through surface-level problems, and make the best possible decisions for the team under ambiguity.
  • You take the initiative to understand the company’s "Grand Strategy," identifying the overall direction and pace of the business independently.
  • You have empathy. You are able to put yourself in other people’s shoes and understand the reasoning, pressure, or constraints behind your teammates’ actions before jumping to conclusions.

 The Team & Culture

We bridge the gap between complex ideas and curious minds. To do this, we:

  • Derive enjoyment from producing content that reaches millions of individuals, working towards making an impact in our unique way.
  • Share ideas openly, receive/provide constructive feedback, and relentlessly shape our content to its best ever state.
  • Have autonomy to innovate and shape your work. We believe in empowering every team member to take full ownership of their projects.
  • Cut the crap. We only do things that matter, and hopefully won’t become one of the 62% of Hong Kongers that find their job meaningless.
  • Play for inspiration. We have internal run clubs, personal project clubs, sukiyaki and whisky clubs, etc (Warned you! We are noisy AF)

 Is this role for me?

In this role, be prepared for unpredictability, there’s no routine Tuesday. If you’re expecting a stable environment or repetitive tasks to master, this isn’t it. You’ll face different challenges daily, learning by doing. When change arises, you’ll be expected to find solutions rather than waiting for direction.

If you think project management is just scheduling or checking boxes that most people can excel it by just repetition, this role might not for you. You may have to step in, educate teammates, and ensure projects stay on track, no matter the obstacles. If you have read 1-2 of the following books, you will understand our “project management philosophy”:

  • Practical Project Management: Proven Frameworks that Great Project Managers Use In The Real World
  • Inspired: How to Create Tech Products Customers Love
  • Building the Second Brain
  • Work the System: The Simple Mechanics of Making More and Working Less

It sounds intense, but by mastering this—adapting to chaos and leading through uncertainty in a structured and organized way—you’ll build a highly transferable skillset. This will give you a high vantage point to thrive across various industries and disciplines.
